Surprisingly versatile city trip: Graz
At the foot of the Alps and situated on the Mur River, Graz is the capital of the Austrian state of Styria. It is Austria's second-largest city with almost 300,000 inhabitants and especially the cozy historic city center has all the ingredients for an enjoyable city trip. Culture and culinary - teeming with restaurants and terraces - go hand in hand here. The largest medieval city center in Central Europe, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, was the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2003. Discover nature in the Murtal
The River Mur winds through the valley of the same name - the Murtal - in the Austrian state of Styria. This province likes to present itself as the green heart of Austria, and anyone who has been there can only agree. Especially for hikers and cyclists, on mountain bike or E Bike, the Murtal is a walhalla for nature lovers with all those beautiful forests and crystal clear lakes, where there has been considerable investment in beautiful cycling and hiking trails. Max Verstappen fans know the gently sloping Murtal because of the Red Bull Ring, even when there is no Formula 1 race here, the museum, track and shop are worth a visit. Thermal spa & Vulkanland: wellness & nature
Joining us for the first time at Vakantiebeurs: Thermen & Vulkanland. As the name of this Austrian region - located in the southeast of Styria - suggests, the landscape still features the contours of ancient volcanoes. And from great depths here, medicinal hot water bubbles to the surface, which is why the region also bears the name Thermen. The mineral-rich thermal water of six thermal baths offers relaxation for body and mind. But active nature lovers will also find plenty to see and experience here with as many as 6,000 kilometers of cycling routes over rolling hills and past vineyards. Highly recommended: Riegersburg Castle. And for culinary gourmets: the Zotter Chocolate Manufactory or Vulcano Ham Manufactory, where pigs even get the occasional beer. Saxony. Worlds
The German state of Saxony - about half the size of the Netherlands - borders Poland and the Czech Republic, as well as Bavaria, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg. Across Saxony flows the Elbe River, which flows into Saxony from the Czech Republic at the Sächsische Schweiz National Park. Along this ElbeRadweg there are wonderful cycling tours, as we discovered during a TV trip for RonReizen through Saxony. Among others, we settled in Dresden, the capital of the region, also affectionately called the "Florence on the Elbe". The skyline of Dresden is one of the most beautiful in Europe and the Old Town has everything to offer for a cultural city-trip, ranging from the Semperoper and the Residence Palace to the Zwinger Palace. The Neustadt is teeming with trendy restaurants. But Leipzig, Saxony's largest city is also worth a visit, as are Chemnitz and Zwickau. Chemnitz may even call itself the cultural capital of Europe in 2025. In addition to these landmark cities, the varied nature also lends itself to hiking and cycling. Discover it for yourself!
