CONSCIOUS TRAVEL

Sustainability Route

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important element in the new travel world. Vakantiebeurs is happy to align itself with these themes and thus developed the Sustainability Route, along partners who offer vacations and travel with sustainability in mind. Many of our participants hold the Travelife Partner certificate.

Travelife Partner certification

Travelife is a globally recognized sustainable tourism certification program approved by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). Certified experts have sustainability policies, buy eco-friendly and promote green commuting. They encourage local partners to be more sustainable in accommodations and excursions. Travelers are encouraged to use sustainable amenities, allowing vacation destinations to develop sustainably with care for people, animals and nature. The Travelife seal guarantees travelers that they are choosing an organization that values sustainable tourism.

In terms of sustainability, our tours take into account the activities, hotels and transportation used. Small-scale hotels with local owners, trains instead of domestic flights. Community based excursions. Furthermore, we are members of Trees for All and have a paperless office and paperless communication with the client.

Sri Lanka On reis organizes small-scale trips to Sri Lanka, using local providers as much as possible. We like to choose to stay several days in one place which not only gives peace of mind but is also less damaging to the environment. We give a lot of information to our travelers about local customs and values. And we inform travelers about the use of single use plastic and emphasize that the vegetarian food in Sri Lanka is really fantastic. We also inform travelers about the possibility of offsetting CO₂ emissions. Through our affiliated association (VvKR) it is possible to offset CO₂ emissions and plant trees through Trees for All.

We believe in tourism with a positive contribution to nature, people and culture. Sustainability and thereby respect for our planet and its people are therefore very important to us. We want to make a positive impact, but what do we mean by that? With impact we mean on the one hand the socio-economic impact - or to put it more simply - improving the living conditions of the local population. This is about improving income, but also about strengthening culture and living environment. In addition, we strongly believe in the power of the direct encounter between people from different cultures and its positive effect on understanding and tolerance for each other, which are more important than ever in this day and age. Our focus in increasing our impact is therefore on these two issues.

Sustainability is a high priority for us, long before it became an issue. For example, we buy organic and cook vegetarian for the enthusiast. We travel around purely on wind power and the tide, we are a small family business not driven by profit, but by the wind.

In addition, we are loyal to our Dutch suppliers. Slightly more expensive, but higher quality and with that we again support local companies, which also preserves the knowledge for the future.
