Like every year, we are already busy booking our next vacation. From distant trips to beautiful destinations to short city trips nearby. Everyone chooses the vacation that suits them best, but which type of vacation is popular varies every year. We have picked and listed the most popular types of trips for 2024 for you. Sustainable travel
We are all aware of the changing climate and our own role in it. This is why more and more people are choosing sustainable options even for a vacation. For example, we like to stay in sustainably made accommodations and in places in the middle of nature. In addition, we find it increasingly important that our vacation does not have a negative impact on local people and nature.
But the journey to the destination is also becoming more sustainable. For example, interest in train travel has risen sharply and we will take the train even more often in 2024. Going on vacation by electric car is also becoming easier. Countries, such as France, that were previously known for having few charging points have taken a big step in the right direction. A vacation to the Côte D'Azur, for example, is now perfectly possible with an electric car.
Affordable luxury
Living at home is becoming increasingly expensive, which causes us to pay close attention to costs when booking a vacation. But ideally, we don't want to compromise on luxury. Therefore, in 2024 we see a great search for affordable luxury on vacation. Choosing a destination is very important in this. We see that more and more people are choosing to go on vacation to a destination where the cost of living is cheaper than here in the Netherlands.
We also keep travel time shorter in 2024 to save costs. A vacation at home or within Europe is popular.
Workation
The term "workation" is coming on strong after the pandemic. This means combining work and pleasure during a vacation. A prerequisite for a good place to stay during a workation is the presence of digital resources. Because without a good WiFi connection, work cannot be done. That way, you can work hard in the morning and enjoy what your destination has to offer in the afternoon. For example, go to the beach or discover the local cuisine in a restaurant.
Popular in Europe for a workation is, for example, southern France and the Spanish coast. Outside Europe, Bali remains as popular as ever as a workation destination.
As on TV
In 2024, our trips are increasingly inspired by what we see on TV. For example, B&B full of love was immensely popular on Dutch TV and this creates a great demand for date vacations and single trips.
The destinations of Wie is de Mol are extremely popular every year. The upcoming season is set in Mexico and we predict that this will be a much sought after destination among the Dutch. After all, what could be more fun than seeing the destinations from the TV series in real life?
But destinations from foreign series and movies can also be visited. For example, think Croatia for Game of Thrones fans, Greece for fans of Mamma Mia! and New Zealand for Lord of the Rings fanatics.
