Meet the unique and beautiful Šibenik-Knin County The heart of the Mediterranean is rich in cultural heritage, as evidenced by its 600 archaeological sites, 11 medieval fortresses and 230 cultural monuments. Unique and beautiful, this region boasts a most diverse array of cultural and natural heritage sites, in the country and abroad. Two out of eight Croatian national parks are located in the Šibenik area, the Krka National Park and the Kornati National Park, as well as two UNESCO sites located in the very town centre, the Cathedral of St. James and the St. Nicholas Fortress. Although being home to two sites under UNESCO’s patronage, more than 24 churches and four ancient fortresses should be reason enough to visit Šibenik, the town outskirts are just as intriguing and exciting.
